Using OPPA to Foster Reflection and Visible Learning
OPPA (One-Page Portfolio Assessment) is an assessment method that allows learners to visualize their progress and understanding on a single sheet. I have integrated OPPA into my classes as a tool to encourage student reflection.
What is OPPA?
OPPA is a portfolio-style assessment where students summarize what they learned and how they grew on one page. It helps learners recognize their achievements and track their development over time.
Classroom Applications
・After reading lessons: record key ideas, new vocabulary, and remaining questions・After group work: reflect on personal role, knowledge gained, and future challenges・At the end of term: review sheets to confirm personal growth
Benefits
・Encourages students to reflect and take ownership of their learning.
・Provides teachers with a clear snapshot of learners’ understanding and needs
Conclusion
OPPA serves as a bridge between curriculum and instruction, linking learner reflection with teacher feedback. It is a powerful tool to support visible and meaningful learning.
