An Example of Instructional Design: the interactive bulletin board

In the field of education, communication between teachers and students is extremely important. In particular, interactive bulletin boards are a great tool to fulfill this role. In this blog, I will discuss in detail how to interact with students through interactive bulletin boards and their benefits. This is a case study report on an experimental teaching method implemented by one of the English teachers at my school (not me). While this interaction with students may not seem directly related to curriculum and instructional design, it actually helped advance the curriculum. It also significantly contributed to the review of lesson content.


First, let's understand what an interactive bulletin board is. It is a platform where teachers and students can share information and exchange ideas in real time. Students can ask questions and express their opinions, and teachers can provide feedback in response. This two-way communication makes learning more effective.


Advantages of Interactive Bulletin Boards


Interactive bulletin boards have many advantages. Here are just a few

- Real-time communication: Students can post questions at any time and teachers can respond immediately. This facilitates the learning process.

- Diverse sharing of opinions: Students can exchange opinions with each other and learn different points of view. This fosters critical thinking.

- Faster feedback: Teachers can immediately assess student understanding and adjust instruction as needed.

- Motivate learning: An interactive environment engages students and motivates them to learn.

- Ease of access: Accessibility from anywhere with Internet access opens up learning opportunities.

These advantages make interactive bulletin boards very useful in education.


Specific Applications


So how exactly can interactive bulletin boards be used? Here are some examples

Setting up a "Question Corner" Teachers can set up a "Question Corner" on the bulletin board. Students can post questions about things they did not understand in class or about homework assignments. The teacher can then respond and help the students to better understand.


Setting up a Discussion Topic


Teachers can encourage discussion on a specific topic. For example, in a literature class, the teacher could set up a "Let's talk about your favorite book" topic and allow students to post their own opinions. This allows students to interact with each other and deepen their learning.

Project Progress Reporting


When doing group projects, students can report their progress using the interactive bulletin board. Each group can post their progress and receive feedback from other groups. This allows them to work together and collaborate on projects.


Sharing Resources


Teachers can post helpful resources and materials on the bulletin board. Students can then refer to them as they work through the project. For example, sharing references and video links can support learning.


A Step Toward Synthesis


Interactive bulletin boards are excellent tools for energizing communication between teachers and students. Real-time exchanges and the sharing of diverse opinions are highly effective for deepening learning. In the educational setting of schools, there is constant consideration of “what” and ‘how’ to teach students. As student diversity increases, as it does today, and young people from various backgrounds gather in schools, an attitude is needed that leverages each student's individuality and treats diversity as the school's asset. Simultaneously, this must foster a new attitude toward learning in each student's mind, one based on “awareness of the concept formation process.” Curriculum and instructional design are now entering a new phase.
